VA: An Act Authorizing Virginia’s DNA Testing Program (HB 1823, Ch. 409, 1989)

Amended and reenacted § 2.1-429 of the Code of Virginia (Consolidated Laboratory Services) to add subdivision A.5, directing the Division of Consolidated Laboratory Services, Bureau of Forensic Science, to establish a DNA testing program to determine identification characteristics specific to an individual, in accordance with § 53.1-23.1. Virginia's first statutory authorization of forensic DNA testing, enacted a year before the DNA data bank itself. Source: Acts of Assembly 1989 Reg.
