AL: An Act Repealing and Replacing the Sex Offender Registration Act — DNA Sample as Registration Information (SB 296, Act 2011-640, 2011)

Core Database Legislation

Repealed Sections 13A-11-200, 13A-11-201, and 13A-11-202 and Sections 15-20-1 through 15-20-38, Code of Alabama 1975, and replaced them with the Alabama Sex Offender Registration and Community Notification Act (Chapter 20A of Title 15). Section 15-20A-7 lists 'a DNA sample' among the registration information a sex offender must provide, and directs the responsible agency to check the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences DNATracker system before collecting a duplicate sample. Because this act repealed the old Chapter 20, the DNA database cross-reference in § 36-18-24(b)(6) pointed to a repealed statute until HB 316 (Act 2015-463) corrected it. Passed the Senate as amended 05-MAY-11; House concurred 02-JUN-11.
