WY: An Act Requiring a Statewide Cold Case Database (HB 29, Enrolled Act No. 47, 2024)

Amended W.S. § 9-1-624 to require the Division of Criminal Investigation to develop and maintain a cold case database — 'cold case' defined as a homicide or felony sexual offense that remains unsolved for two or more years after being reported — with mandatory reporting by law enforcement agencies for cold cases committed or reported on or after January 1, 1972, DCI rulemaking on the information to be collected, an annual report, and an appropriation authorizing funds for cold case investigations. 67th Legislature, 2024 Budget Session. The act contains no DNA-specific language; included as cold-case infrastructure supporting forensic DNA casework. Effective July 1, 2024; the enrolled copy in the folder carries blank governor signature/date lines.
