Forensic Genetic Genealogy Legislation

Amended Health and Safety Code §§ 124977 and 124991 and added Article 2.5 (commencing with § 125010) to Chapter 1 of Part 5 of Division 106, relating to newborn screening. Governs retention, use, and disclosure of residual newborn blood spots held by the state and requires public reporting on who is using California's newborn bloodspot specimens and for what purpose. Approved by the Governor September 25, 2024.
