WA: An Act Updating Cross-References in Washington’s DNA Collection Statute (HB 1028, Ch. 197, 2023)

In a crime-victims-and-witnesses act, § 7 amended RCW 43.43.754 both to update cross-references and to add substantive jail DNA-collection accountability: each city and county jail must adopt a policy to collect samples from qualifying convicted persons before release, and if a person is released without a sample the jail must notify the sentencing court within three business days, prompting a compliance hearing at which the sample is taken.
