Vermont Department of Public Safety / Vermont Forensic Laboratory rule for the DNA Database Unit, in seven parts covering goals and objectives, definitions, receipt and processing of samples, DNA analysis and inclusion in the database, lines of authority and responsibilities, access to data and information, and expungement. Samples originate from persons in Department of Corrections custody on or after 4/29/98 required to submit under 20 V.S.A. 1933. Except for forensic unknown samples, no sample voluntarily submitted or obtained by execution of a non-testimonial identification order may be entered into the data bank. All DNA samples consist of a tube of blood unless DPS develops a less invasive method. Access is permitted only as specified in 20 V.S.A. 1936-1942.
