CA: An Act Requiring DNA Specimens From Sex Offenders Registering by Mail (AB 201, Ch. 457, 1993)

Amends Penal Code section 290.2 to permit a person required to register as a sex offender who registers by mail, or who is otherwise not in custody, to be directed to appear at a designated facility to provide the two blood specimens and saliva sample required for DNA and other genetic typing analysis at the Department of Justice DNA laboratory; closes a collection gap in California's original sex-offender DNA sampling mandate by ensuring specimens are obtained from registrants who are never received into a custodial setting.
