TX: An Act Removing DNA Collection Exemptions for Certain Offenses (HB 979, 2019)

Amended Texas Gov't Code § 411.1471(a)(3)(A) to strike the DNA-collection exemptions for the Class A misdemeanor offenses of unlawful restraint (Penal Code § 20.02) and assault (§ 22.01), so a defendant convicted of those Title 5 offenses must now provide a DNA record (deadly conduct under § 22.05 remains exempt). Applies to offenses committed on or after the effective date; effective September 1, 2019.
