ME: An Act Amending Maine’s DNA Sample Collection Offense List (LD 2027, PL 1997, c. 608, 1997)

Emergency act amending Maine's DNA Data Base and Data Bank Act: repealed and replaced 25 MRSA § 1574(1) to require any person convicted on or after January 1, 1996 of a listed offense to submit a DNA sample by court order at sentencing, amended the § 1574 applicable-offense list (murder, manslaughter, aggravated assault, gross sexual assault, rape, sexual and child-sex offenses, kidnapping, burglary, robbery, arson, and lesser included offenses), designated the Chief of the State Police as responsible for the database, and clarified who may draw blood samples.
